Hotels near the Vatican - choose the best

How cool it seems, going on a trip, to tell friends: “And we will live next to the Vatican.” One summer I myself rented an apartment right 200 meters from the walls of the Vatican, from the window in the kitchen I admired the dome and remember the reaction of my friends - everyone thought that it was just super!

But is it comfortable to live next to one of the most popular attractions? Let's get it right.

Even filtering out only high-rated accommodation options, we get more than 4 thousand options, all of them like “next to the Vatican”.

Agree, too much. Therefore, it is worthwhile to approach the issue more meticulously and figure out what is “nearby” and what is the “Vatican”.

If you have already read the article “Where is the center of Rome”, then you understand that the Vatican is located away from the main attractions and the historical center of the city. Therefore, the part beyond the Vatican, where the entrance to the museums is located, we immediately mark in red - this is where the largest crowds, rather dirty, the most tourist restaurants. In general, this is not Rome for me, and I will not write about this zone.

We will strive with you for a different, more beautiful one, and consider only the green zone, which we will start from St. Peter's Square towards the historical center, so that we can comfortably walk to other interesting places in Rome without making march-throws of 5 km.

I advise you to read about:

If you are not a religious fanatic ready to sleep even on the floor or a tourist with a super limited budget, then “near the Vatican” you have only 4 worthy options. Please note that there are no 3 star hotels with good reviews in the green area near the Vatican.

Residenza Paolo VI

The residence hotel of Pope Paul VI is located in the former monastery building just across the road from the colonnade. The rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of the cathedral and St. Peter's Square. The cozy rooms, friendly staff, the opportunity to go to the cathedral at least every day without loss of time, as well as listen to the papal Sunday mass, definitely deserve attention.

Starhotels Michelangelo Rome

The 4 star Hotel Starhotels Michelangelo Rome is the most modern in the overview. In the next house I was renting an apartment, so I know this zone very well. It's quiet enough, you’ll get enough sleep. St Peter's Square is about 7 minutes stomp. In terms of price / quality ratio, this is indeed a worthy option. The only moment to get to Trastevere on foot is to go through a noisy tunnel of 500 meters, I did not like it. 46.62.64 buses run relatively often to the city center, towards Piazza Venezia, from the hotel.

Gran melia rome

Hotel 5 stars Gran Melia Rome - even if you can’t afford this option, be sure to look through the photos on the booking. The hotel has everything to restore strength after walking in Rome - a swimming pool, jacuzzi, SPA zone, Turkish bath, lounge areas.

Hotel la rovere

4 star Hotel La Rovere is the golden mean for its price and location. To the Vatican go about 10 minutes, but to the city center about the same, plus next to Trastevere with hundreds of delicious restaurants. If there is not enough budget for Gran Melia, from the accommodation options discussed in the article, I would definitely stay here.
