Sirmione baths - which are better?

The Italian town of Sirmione, located on the southern shore of Lake Garda (Lago di Garda), is a favorite vacation spot for many travelers who come here not only to enjoy the breathtaking beauties of the Mediterranean nature, to plunge into the national color, and see centuries-old monuments of architecture, but also get a quality improvement.

Thanks to the thermal waters of healing springs, the resort has gained worldwide fame, and for many years has been incredibly popular with tourists from all over the world.

What terms are famous for

The small town of Sirmione (its area is only 33 km2), founded during the period of the Roman Empire, received the official status of a thermal health resort only at the end of the XIX century. Although historians know for certain about the healing springs that have existed here since time immemorial. Information has been preserved proving that even the ancient Romans built lead pipes to supply unique water to the surface.

In recent history, interest in scientific research of the amazing gift of local nature appeared in 1891. Eight years later, when diving to a 20-meter depth of Lake Garda, not far from the Grottoes of Catullus, a flow of hot groundwater was discovered.

It was possible to expand the crevice in the rock by drilling a well and installing a water pipe - this was the opening of a life-giving geothermal spring, called Fonte Boiola.

Several years were required for complex engineering work. As a result, a stainless steel pipeline was built, the total length of which exceeded 300 m. In 1900, the first thermal complex officially opened in Sirmione, offering a wide range of wellness services. In the late 40s, after the end of World War II, large-scale repair work was carried out to strengthen and expand the existing complex system of water pipes, and two more geothermal wells with the same characteristics were cut as the Boyola source.

Today, the so-called Terme di Sirmione (Terme di Sirmione) is a superbly developed resort infrastructure, aimed at providing upscale relaxation and wellness. They include several treatment facilities:

  1. Catullo Complex (Terme Catullo);
  2. Spa Center Aquaria (Aquaria);
  3. Thermal Health Resort Virgilio (Terme Virgilio);
  4. Hotel complex Grand Hotel Terme;
  5. Hotel Sirmione e Promessi Sposi;
  6. Hotel Fonte Boiola.

Modern medical equipment, equipment corresponding to the latest science and technology, qualified personnel, and most importantly, the life-giving force of local sulfuric water coming from natural sources, allow us to consider Sirmione as one of the best medical and spa centers not only in Italy, but throughout Of Europe.

Composition and healing properties of local water

An amazing gift of nature, gushing from the bowels of the earth, has a unique physico-chemical composition. The process of mineralization and enrichment with valuable trace elements occurs at a depth of about 2.5 km below sea level.

During transportation, water, the initial temperature of which is almost 70 degrees, is cooled in special tanks to 32-36. Such measures make it suitable for filling pools, bathtubs and grottoes, as well as for medical use, while the high content of hydrogen sulfide, iodine and bromine salts remains unchanged.

Sirmione geothermal springs are a storehouse of valuable elements, which include: sodium, selenium, chromium, nickel, potassium, zinc, iron, lithium and many other substances that contribute to the activation and acceleration of chemical reactions.

The National Health Service of Italy (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale - SSN) recognized hydrotherapy in Sirmione the best comprehensive tool in the prevention and treatment of the following pathologies:

  • Skin diseases (psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, acne, etc.);
  • Musculoskeletal disorders (arthritis, rheumatism);
  • Gynecological and urological problems;
  • Rhinogenic deafness;
