Arena di Verona

Rental di Verona - antique amphitheater. Today it is a concert venue. Opera festivals are held here annually and the best opera troupes perform. If there are no performances, then tours are conducted around the arena.

Arena di Verona

Rental di Verona (Arena di Verona) - an antique amphitheater at the Piazza Bra. It hosts concerts, large-scale opera festivals. Outside of performances, you can visit the Arena as part of the tour.

Along the perimeter of Bra Square, many restaurants, cafes, and boutiques are open. Around the Arena are crowded people: tourists, souvenir dealers, persistent barkers, "living statues" with whom you can take pictures. We approach the walls of the majestic ancient building.

The arena is the oldest Roman amphitheater built before the Coliseum, and historical evidence has recently been found for this. By the way, they were found by chance. During the next repair, in the layers of ancient rubbish under one of the arches, material artifacts and sestercia coins were discovered that belonged to at least the forties of the 1st century A.D. The Coliseum was built later - in the eighties.

After a long break, starting from ancient times, the authorities became preoccupied with the fate of the Arena, and from the 18th century they began to use it again for public events. The first opera festival was held in 1913. It was Aida. The spectacle against the backdrop of natural ancient scenery was unique, the acoustics did not disappoint, critics' reviews were enthusiastic.

The huge amphitheater has an oval shape - the length of the structure is 152 meters. From the genuine three-tier arched walls of pink marble, one wing has been preserved. After the earthquake of 1117, the outer ring of the building was destroyed, and then the Veronians began to actively remove the marble blocks for construction. The ruined walls from the 15th century were gradually restored. Now most of them consist of brick, limestone and cement.

Inside the Arena, the four-story hall with marble rows of seats looks like a huge funnel. It is filled with workers, construction cranes, parts of scenery, lighting equipment. One can imagine what an exceptional acoustics are here, how fantastic the evening lighting looks, how the opera is perceived!
